From the Heart

In days from the past the story is told of a poor sharecropper family in Georgia.  They barely eked out an existence and were always in debt.  One year they had a good harvest and had a few dollars left over after their debts were paid.  There was not enough money for a separate gift for each family member, so the mail order catalog was examined to find a modest gift all could share.  They decided to order a mirror, for they had never had a mirror in their home.  Ten days later the mailman brought them a package. They opened the box.  The father looked in the mirror and frowned.  The mother smiled. The baby giggled. Each saw his or her own likeness for the first time.  Finally, the mirror was passed to little Willie.  He did not know whether to cry or frown, for you see, Will had been kicked in the face by a mule when he was a toddler.  His face was scarred and twisted.

“Mom”, he asked, “do I really look like this?  Did you know it all the time?  And you still loved me?”

“Yes, Willie,” she replied, “I loved you.”

This is the message from God to our world at this Christmas time.  No matter how scarred and twisted our lives, God loves us.

Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrated His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

God’s gift is intensely personal because Jesus was born, he lived and he died on the cross for me.  There is no greater gift that a person can receive than to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

Merry Christmas and my prayer is that God would bless each and every one of you.
